Rapid response is matched by rapid accreditation

A Springer Rapid Industries product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Dec 22, 2004

Although a subcontractor only started manufacturing in June of 2004, it has made heavy investment in state-of-the-art machine tools and has now gained ISO 9001:2000 accreditation.

Rotherham-based precision sub-contractor Springer Rapid Industries' track record is quite something, given that the company only started manufacturing in June of 2004.

It has reaped the rewards of heavy investment in state-of-the-art machine tools and has now backed that up by being accredited with ISO 9001:2000.

While it is not alone in this recognition, the relatively short time scale taken to gain accreditation is unusual, if not unique.

"In our experience this timescale is remarkable and a credit to the commitment of the management and staff who have worked extremely hard to deliver the systems that were needed.

The acquisition of ISO 9001:2000 will be a definite improvement to our business," says Engineering Director, Dr Lee Styger.

"We will now continue to target similar accreditations in aerospace and automotive to develop stronger links with those sectors.

"This success is thanks to the foresight of putting structures in place within the business from the very beginning.

We had always planned to gain various accreditations and ISO is the first stage in that plan." QS ISO 9001:2000 will now form the backbone of Springer Rapid Industries' procedures and will link effectively with other processes such as continual professional development (CPD), factory/production management and quality issues.

This holistic view of business and quality systems will allow Springer to avoid the replication commonly associated with management procedures within manufacturing companies.

Working in this way the company is creating a new model that other manufacturing companies could also benefit from.
