Automatic EDM wire feed system cuts lead times
The high-speed, sensor-controlled, automatic wire feed system on its latest wire EDM is really reducing lead times for multi-aperture work at a spring maker.
The high-speed, sensor-controlled, automatic wire feed system on its latest wire EDM is really reducing lead times for multi-aperture work at a spring maker.
West Bromwich-based precision spring manufacturer Adwin Spring Co is seeing the benefit of its second high-precision Sodick wire erosion machine.
The AQ 325L, which incorporates Sodick's award-winning linear motor technology, is helping to increase the company's production, as joint Managing Director, Dave Harris, explains, "The high-speed, sensor-controlled, automatic wire feed system is really reducing lead times for our multi-aperture processes, and, as if that were not enough," he continues; "the 40% reduction in power consumption is very welcome too." The installation of this second Sodick machine marks an important milestone for Adwin Spring which has seen a strong increase in orders, particularly for electronic and EMC shielding applications.
The company, which has been established over 45 years, manufactures precision spring clip and electronic components in a wide variety of metals for a range of industries including automotive and autosport, as well as electronics.
Naturally, in today's competitive climate, the company's decision to purchase a Sodick machine was only made after comparing a number of alternatives.
"After researching the market, we came to the conclusion that the AQ 325L, with its superb accuracy and impressive machining times, was definitely the right choice for us," says Dave.
Joint MD, Jeff Harris, continues, "Our customers, operating in a highly competitive environment themselves, are asking us to provide the highest quality of work in ever-shortening lead times.
The Sodick machines' ability to provide positional accuracies of less than 1 micron and contouring accuracies of less than 4 microns, have proved to be critical enhancements over our conventional ball-screw wire erosion process, enabling us to provide the delivery dates and quality our customers are looking for.".
