A Sodi-Tech edm product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Aug 12, 2003

Though established for less than a year a young EDM subby already has a full order book for a wide range of EDM work, from aerospace, automotive and plastics injection moulding sectors.

Sodick EDM equipment and consumables are helping A and M EDM grow from strength to strength.

Smethwick-based A and M EDM currently employs 4 staff and has been established for less than a year but already has a full order book for a wide range of sub-contract EDM work, including for the aerospace, automotive and plastic injection moulding sectors.

Director, Mark Wingfield, is delighted with the success the new venture has achieved.

"In sub-contract work, speed and reliability are essential," he explains, "that's why we chose Sodick EDM machines.

I have over 10 year's experience of this equipment myself, so, when it came to investing in top-notch, really reliable equipment for the new business I knew what I was looking for." The company has purchased two brand new Sodick EDM machines, an AQ325L linear motor wire-cut EDM machine and an A325 as well as a new hole driller, in addition to a WH750 and a 530D second-user machine which were both purchased from Sodi-Tech EDM.

To make certain its machines run to optimum capacity A and M also purchases only Sodick consumables.

"Over the years I have tried plenty of alternatives," says Mark, "But the machines run more smoothly with these and again, in sub-contract work, reliability is absolutely vital." As of July A and M is purchasing its wire and filters from KHS Europe, the newly announced joint venture between Sodi-Tech EDM, and KHS, world-wide supplier of Sodick consumables.

The launch of the new company is part of Sodick's on-going programme to improve service and reduce costs to the customer.

KHS Europe MD, Peter Capp, commented, "The purpose of the new venture is to enable us to respond even more quickly to customer requests for parts and consumables, which will, of course, continue be supported by our team of application specialists.".
