Machines keep mouldmaker "out of the
bear pit"
By understanding and supplying tooling for two material injection moulding, and buying the latest EDM kit, has helped a mouldmaker keep "out of the bear pit of run-of-the-mill toolmaking".
Chesham-based Euromoulds has established its credentials as a successful player in a niche market by understanding and supplying tools for two material injection moulding The company, established in 1986, employs a skilled team of 12 staff, who, working with top quality machines, produce tools to the very highest standard

Automatic EDM wire feed system cuts lead times
The high-speed, sensor-controlled, automatic wire feed system on its latest wire EDM is really reducing lead times for multi-aperture work at a spring maker.
Long-time users of Sodick EDM equipment, the company has just invested in a new AQ55 linear EDM sink machine from Sodi-Tech EDM in Coventry.
"UK toolmaking has been very competitive for some time now," comments Euromoulds MD, Richard Powell, "which is why we decided to offer specialist skills and service - it keeps us "out of the bear pit of run-of-the-mill toolmaking".
Richard admits to having been lucky with some of the far-seeing and innovative UK manufacturers the company has had the opportunity to do business with and which have helped Euromoulds develop its current level of expertise.

Though established for less than a year a young EDM subby already has a full order book for a wide range of EDM work, from aerospace, automotive and plastics injection moulding sectors.
Wire EDM brings work back in-house
World's leading manufacturer of umbrella frames, has recently invested in its first EDM wire erosion machine to bring sub-contract work in-house and change production methods.
Dyson, for whom the company has worked for many years, remains a loyal customer and is still ordering advanced tooling from Euromoulds in the UK to be shipped overseas for production.
Euromoulds' sister company, Twoshot Moulding, which is also situated in Chesham, has invested in three two-shot moulding machines and this facility gives Euromoulds the advantage of being able to fully prove its tooling before shipping to customers in the UK and overseas.
Powell sees a growing market for two-shot moulding and is keen for UK designers to take up the challenges and opportunities that it presents.
Euromoulds is already involved in the provision of tools for the medical and automotive sectors, and an ice-scraper, designed purely as a marketing promotional gift for the company has proved so popular that the product is now manufactured on a commercial basis and last year more than 200,000 were sold.
Another potential growth area is in the manufacture of plumbing fixtures, where loose seals are traditionally assembled by hand onto the manufactured item, giving rise to problems where seals are lost or broken before being installed on-site.
Two-material mouldings could solve these issues as well as avoiding the labour cost involved in fitting the seals.
Naturally, when producing such complex moulds, highly accurate, reliable and easy-to-use equipment is required, which is why Euromoulds has relied on Sodick machines for many years.
When it came to selecting his latest machine, Powell knew where to look, "Our experience with Sodick has been very good.
We were invited over to Japan to see the new linear motor machines in development a couple of years ago, and we were very impressed, so when the moment came to upgrade our EDM sink machine we went straight for the Sodick AQ55.".
