Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Oct 22, 2003

Paragon Tool and Die in Skelmersdale has invested in two EDM machines: a Sodick A325 wire eroder and one of the range of new linear motor sink machines

Newly independent as the result of a management buy out last year, Paragon Tool and Die in Skelmersdale is continuing to provide flexibility and excellence to customers in a wide range of sectors.

The company, established in 1981 primarily to provide the tooling for Carrol Cosmetics (which is located on the same site), has extensive expertise in the design and manufacture of complex, multi-cavity plastic injection mould tools including lipstick casings, powder compacts, mascara cases and brushes, etc The demands of the cosmetics industry led Paragon to diversify its production to include blow mould tooling and press tooling, to provide the full range of packaging options including bottles and closures.

This diversity of skills and equipment has enabled the newly independent team to tackle a wide variety of tasks ranging from rubber mould design to press tools for heavy-duty clutch plates for earth moving machinery.

"High precision and flexibility is our selling point," explains MD Peter Malloney, "So when it comes to selecting equipment we are looking for technology that give us a competitive advantage." The company has invested in two EDM machines; a Sodick A325 wire eroder and one of the range of new linear motor sink machines, which, with its super-fast lift-off function is slashing Paragon's EDM machining times, allowing the company to deliver finished tools to customers in double-quick time.
