10,000 EDMs built, 5000 with linear motors

Sodick Thailand has just celebrated a major production milestone by delivering its 10,000th machine and has also achieved its target of manufacturing more than 5,000 linear motor EDMs

Sodick Thailand has just celebrated a major production milestone by delivering its 10,000th machine, and, as if that were not enough, the plant has also achieved its target of manufacturing more than 5,000 linear motor EDM machines.

The production facility, located 50km outside Bangkok, has been steadily increasing machine production since it opened ten years ago and now has the capacity to produce up to 140 EDM machines each month.

Sodick Co, which has its headquarters in Japan, has followed a strategy of internationalisation, not only of distribution and services, but also of production, from the beginning.

At a celebration to mark the plant's achievement, company president Shigeo Shioda attributed the company's success to the high calibre of Sodick equipment manufactured worldwide; exemplified by the high-tech factory in Thailand and its skilled workforce of 750 who not only assemble the cutting, erosion and small-hole drilling machines but also produce the Sodick linear motors and drives, CNC controls and EDM generators.

As a continuation of its international strategy Sodick recently announced its further expansion in the UK with the opening of a new office, KHS Europe, to provide service support and consumables to customers in the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe.

This new organisation, located in Coventry, shares premises and staff with Sodick's sole UK distributor, Sodi-Tech EDM.

Peter Capp, president of, KHS Europe, commented, "This new development is helping us improve service and reduce costs to the customer.

We are now able to respond even more quickly and efficiently to customer requests for parts and consumables, which are, of course, fully supported by our team of application specialists.".
