Open EDM controller based on Windows XP boasts a high-speed processor, speedy 3D graphics, and an operator-friendly user interface, as well as intuitive, menu-assisted programming.

Together with 3D Q3vic Solution, the open 3D LQ controller based on Windows XP was the EMO highlight in the area of control technology Sodick calls it the "Real World Standard"

The new controllers boast a high-speed processor, speedy 3D graphics, and an operator-friendly user interface, as well as intuitive, menu-assisted programming based on 3D data read in using the Q3vic 3D Solution.

When equipped for the specific task at hand, the LQ becomes a high-tech CNC for EDM applications of all kinds.

The best example for this is the new high-speed wire EDM technology LQ33W.

With it, Sodick wire machines are now capable of achieving an extraction rate of more than 200mm2/minute, even when using conventional standard brass wire with a diameter of 0.2mm - and with brass wire with a diameter of 0.3mm, extraction performance even exceeds the 330mm2/minute range.

These performance figures are unique on the marketplace and hold the absolute world record.

For the user, that means the highest possible productivity at reduced cost, because thicker or more expensive coated EDM wires are no longer necessary for outstanding machining performance.

In addition, operating costs are reduced thanks to decreased electricity requirements and minimised filter consumption.

The closed feedback loop, consisting of CNC control and linear drives, enables machining with optimal pulse rates, through which the high performance of the generator is transferred perfectly to the work-piece.

What the LQ 33 W is to wire EDM, the LQ with SVC circuit is to die-sinking EDM.

SVC used in conjunction with the new LQ control optimises pulse control and monitoring in the process.

The impressive results: fine-finishing extraction rates can be increased by a factor of four while ensuring optimal surface quality down to 0.5 micron Ra over the entire surface of even large electrodes - all without forfeiting other performance characteristics.

Indeed, as an added positive side effect, the already minimal wear on electrodes is reduced even further.
