Linear drive EDM machines 10t dies

A Sodi-Tech edm product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Oct 15, 2007

A die-sinking EDM, equipped with linear motor powered axes drives, is designed for producing large dies up to 10 tonnes.

Sodick introduced a die-sinking EDM at EMO for machining large dies.

The AQ15L has linear motor driven axes in X, Y and Z for high-speed, high-precision machining dies of up to 10,000kg.

Linear motors provide high-acceleration for high-precision transfer machining without dielectric fluid flushing.

The machine's high-rigidity structure is unaffected by work piece weight.

The double-column machine tool structure without overhangs provides high-response, high-precision efficient machining and there is minimal effect of temperature changes.

Machine symmetry in X- and Y-axis minimises the influence of environmental temperature on work piece positioning and enables stable machining to high precision.

The 'free standing' table means that work piece weight has no influence on the geometry.An automatic tool change unit utilises the extra service stroke of Y-axis to make continuous machining possible, greatly improving net working ratio.

The specification of the AQ15L includes the following.

* Maximum travel of X,Y, Z axes are 900 x 1500 (+900) x 600mm respectively.

* Maximum electrode weight is100kg.

* Maximum weight of work piece is10,000kg.

* Machine tool dimensions are (W x D x H mm) 3050 x 5260 x 3970mm (including power unit and service tank).

* Total power supply 3-phase 50/60Hz 10kVA (including fluid cooler).

* Air pressure is 0.65Mpa.

* Airflow rate is 100NR/min.
