Ball screw design helps axis drives to operate
Axis drives have, according to Steinmeyer, been revolutionised by the introduction of the ETAplus ball screw design.
Today, the company is best known for its ballscrews and nut assemblies, which it started to produce in the 1960s.
Over the years, Steinmeyer's engineers have done some pioneering work in the development of ballscrews.
The early ballscrews for instrument engineering and research equipment applications were required to have diameters between 5 and 16mm.
The introduction of numerical controls in the machine tools sector saw the development of larger size ballscrews.
Today, Steinmeyer offers ballscrew products ranging from 3 to 125mm in diameter.
The company's standard program of miniature ballscrews has diameters of between 3 and 16mm.
Working closely with its customers, Steinmeyer specialises in providing tailored ballscrew solutions for a wide range of applications.
For instance, screw journals for standardised nuts from 16 to 100mm are always machined using customers' drawings.
Steinmeyer's unique nut design allows the company to meet almost all outside dimension requirements.
But nuts can also be tailor made to satisfy any special needs.
Ballscrews and nuts play an important role in the overall machine performance.
Although a small part in the mechanism of the machine, it can cause expensive down time and increase the cost of maintenance if not considered carefully during the original design stages of the machine.
The Steinmeyer strategy is to learn as much as possible about the application in order to be able to recommend the best ballscrew and nut solution.
Not only has Steinmeyer been established for a long time, the company is constantly growing and will further expand its manufacturing facilities in Germany in 2007.
