Sony Europe's Image Sensing Solutions (ISS) division has announced the availability of its IEEE1394.b machine vision software design kit (SDK), and that it is accessable via free internet download.

The Sony propriertry SDK will be obtainable by all users who register on the Sony ISS website.

The SDK makes it easy for customers to debug and integrate their applications with any IEEE1394 type board, IEEE1394.b driver and Sony IEEE1394.b camera, such as the recently introduced XCD-V50/CR model.

The Sony toolkit speeds development time for camera control applications with IIDC1394.b Sony digital cameras using Microsoft DirectShow Application Program interface (API), or the easy to use IIDCAPI camera control API.

Integrators only need a good knowledge of C/C++ programming with DirectShow to gain the immeadiate benefits.

Full support and control of all Sony IEEE1394.b camera features are supported via the Sony SDK.

Users can capture image data in various sizes, formats and frames rates.

The kit comes fully documented with a complete programming guide, reference guide and Direct Show tutorial to reduce learning time.

Source code of a DirectShow Bayer conversion filter, and source code of Sony sample applications such as SonyCap (Direct Show example), SonyOHCI (capture and control Sony camera using Direct Show) and SonyIIDC (full control, display and capture using IIDCAPI), are available subject to Sony Licenese terms and are free of charge and bundled within each SDK Package.

The Sony SDK provides support for OHCI compatible hardware interface boards, and offers software compatibility with Windows 2000 SP4 /XP SP1 or higher, Direct X 9.0c and Visual studio.NET 2002 or higher.

This toolkit offers software engineers the first opportunity to save significant development time and costs with IEEE1394.b machine vision systems.
