Leading weight instrumentation specialists Sensor Techniques has introduced its DAS72-EX safe area amplifier, specifically designed for use with the ATEX certified digital weight display.

Leading weight instrumentation specialists Sensor Techniques has introduced its DAS72-EX safe area amplifier, specifically designed for use with the versatile BEKA BA488C ATEX certified hazardous area digital weight display The BA488C, which is suitable for use in zones 0, 1 and 2, can display text and simple graphics on its large high contrast, back-lit LCD screen

Based on the 'BEKA Protocol', Sensor Techniques have developed proprietary software for the display, enabling it to be used for simple weight-based process control applications in hazardous areas.

The operator can set or cancel new zero and tare values via the unit's push-buttons, with the screen displaying either gross or net weight values.

A 'No-motion' message is displayed when the weight readings are stable.

The screen also indicates which of the three built-in logic outputs are 'on' at any given time.

The DAS72-EX can drive up to four 350 ohm load cells located in the hazardous area and the DIN rail mounted version has a built-in digital display with a maximum display value of +/- 99,999 counts.

The unit comes as standard with a fast, 600 samples per second, 4-20mA analogue output and a RS422/485 multi-drop communication port, which is used to interface with the BA488C via an ATEX certified communications isolator.

Traditionally display meters situated in the hazardous area have utilised the retransmitted 4-20mA signal from the safe area instrumentation.

However the pre-requisite barriers adversely affect the analogue signal, resulting in inherent inaccuracies and discrepancies between the reading in the safe area and that in the hazardous area.

In comparison the integrity of the digital signal transmitted via the RS422/485 link does not suffer from any degradation, ensuring the two readings are always exactly the same.

The DAS72-EX is part of Sensor Techniques' extensive range of weight amplifiers, weight controllers, digital displays, load cells and mounting assemblies.
