Voyager Program Records Double-Digit Growth
Surge in business and installed Solid Edge computer-aided design (CAD) software base attracts participation by third-party software and hardware developers
UGS PLM Solutions, the product lifecycle management subsidiary of EDS, today announced its Solid Edge Voyager Program grew at double-digit rates in 2003, expanding to more than 200 integrated third-party software and hardware applications.
The Solid Edge Voyager Program serves the Solid Edge computer-aided design (CAD) user base with access to leading software and hardware applications that offer best-in-class computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE) solutions.
New program members in 2003 added diverse sets of applications for manufacturing, rapid prototyping, sheet metal fabrication, rendering, viewing, redlining, collaboration, standard parts, electro-mechanical design and more.
UGS PLM Solutions attributed the strong interest in the Voyager Program to multiple factors, including external market trends as well as specific Solid Edge milestones reached during the year.
"The growth of engineering software applications worldwide springs from market demand and the success of the mainstream CAD market's model to provide design-centric applications integrated with a large number of third-party software solutions to address specific needs of our customers," said Bruce Boes, Solid Edge vice president of global marketing and business strategy.
"The growth reflects the strong emerging trend of 2D system users migrating to the inherently more productive 3D design process." "A number of important direct Solid Edge-related factors also led to the growth as more companies identified the Solid Edge community as a tremendous growth opportunity," said Mark Davies, manager of the Solid Edge Voyager Program.
Davies cited:.
* 2003 worldwide surge in the Solid Edge business and its installed base - more than 10 percent revenue growth in the last 12 months (Q4 2002 through Q3 2003), a period during which many of its competitors have reported revenue declines.
Solid Edge's installed base now tops 150,000 worldwide.
* Continued and long-term stability and strength of UGS PLM Solutions as the world leader in product lifecycle management - the company, built on three decades of leadership, has 41,000 customers and more than 2.6 million seats of technology operating in the market.
* Strength of two powerful product releases in 2003, Solid Edge versions 14 and 15 and their high levels of industry press recognition -- Joe Greco, an independent CAD consultant, recently tabbed Solid Edge as the "Top Technology" for 2003.
See his comments and those of other key industry observers at www.solidedge.com/press/pressreviews.htm.
* Qualitative and quantitative Solid Edge Value-Added Reseller (VAR) channel growth worldwide - the Solid Edge community is now supported by more than 260 VARs, as well as by direct Solid Edge support personnel within UGS PLM Solutions.
