Graphical E-Learning for all Applications

A Schott Systeme GmbH product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jun 1, 2005

Schott Systeme offers e-learning as part of their successful Pictures by PC package

Generally people learn more easily from graphics as opposed to text explanations, regardless of what the topic is.

Thus when developing elearning software to create training material for their current CAD/CAM users, Schott Systeme based this software around its own CAD system 'Pictures by PC'.

In fact this combination has proved so successful that these tools are now included as standard within 'Pictures by PC' for their customers to use.

Firstly then by being based around a CAD system, the 2D and 3D vector graphic tools enable learning aids and ideas to be physically constructed and visualised.

These can also be used in conjunction with standard bitmaps, with the latter being cropped, annotated and adjusted within the software.

In fact with a certain degree of imagination, the inbuilt render and animation tools could also be used to create complete interactive learning movie presentations.

A common problem with any training material is the inclusion of large graphics, lets say such as an A0 engineering drawing or complex software dialog boxes.

However 'Pictures by PC' handles these in a unique way through their ingenious 'loop' preview tool.

Here graphics of any size are resized to the width of the elearning window.

On a mouse over movement, these graphics automatically expand and come to life for the user to zoom around and read.

Problem solved for large graphics.

And now comes the key to creating effective learning material.

Being based around a complete 2D/3D CAD system, graphic data from so many varying origins can be imported and used.

This could be DXF for 2D CAD data, AI/EPS for Adobe or Corel graphic designs, SAT/IGES/VDA/3DStudio for 3D models or even hand sketches that are then automatically vectorised and smoothed within the software.

In short the software provides a complete base for working with graphics.

Bearing in mind that a normal elearing package alone can cost into the thousands, Schott Systeme offer the tools as part of their standard CAD product.

This means the complete solution is only 2,800 Euros.
