Rotary shaft Viton seals offer higher performance
Rotary shaft seals using Viton material provide a higher performance alternative to traditional Nitrile seals which tend to fail prematurely when exposed to modern synthetic oils.
Fasteners guide includes finishes and properties
A comprehensive new guide listing all European makes and sizes of fasteners and fixing solutions, including handy metric conversion tables, is now available.
Available off the shelf in over 200 metric sizes, the range has models that operate with shafts speeds in excess of 6,000rpm and types that operate with pressures over 10bar.
Nitrile based seals have been traditionally used as a cost-effective solution for sealing mineral oil and grease based systems where shafts operate at low speeds and therefore low temperatures.
With the constant demand for longer life and higher operating speeds from the next generation of machinery, the use of new synthetic lubricants has increased, resulting in a shift away from Nitrile based materials in preference for higher performance sealing designs using Viton lip elements.

Serco Ryan has become a distribution partner for the world leading Fischer range of high quality fixing solutions.
Agreement extends distributorship of cutting tools
Extensive stocks of 700 different types of high-quality Dormer jobber drills, reamers, taps and cutters are available through a network of 40 dealers.
Fastening solution reduces assembly time and parts
An efficient fastening solution for one of the world's largest motor manufacturer's latest line in control gear has significantly cut assembly time and number of components required.
Viton offers excellent resistance to both mineral oils and advanced synthetic types such as high-alloyed hypoid oil, providing longer operating life and reduced chance of machine failure.
Traditional Nitrile based seals typically have an operating temperate range of up to 160øC whilst Viton maintains its sealing performance in applications where temperatures reach 200øC and shaft speeds exceed 6,000rpm.
For these reasons, Serco Ryan now offers the largest range of Viton based rotary shaft seals in the UK, all available off the shelf to ensure minimal lead times.
The range includes over 200 metric sizes in six basic types including seals with rubber covered metal inserts for speedy installation, types with dust lips for extra protection from contaminants and models with reinforcing caps to withstand pressures of over 10bar.
Stock designs are available to fit bore sizes from 10 - 500mm and with garter springs manufactured from either harmonic spring steel or stainless for more demanding applications.
For specialist applications, Serco Ryan offers a large selection of non-standard seals with short turn around times, an added benefit from sourcing components within Europe.
The facility allows manufacturers total flexibility of design in terms of shaft and housing sizes as well as optional seal designs.
Variations include twin lip types with two garter springs for extra protection; other designs include right rotation, left rotation and bi-directional hydrodynamic lips.
The hydrodynamic design produces a spiralling effect for recycling the lubricant from the lip back into the system, therefore minimising the risk of leakage and contamination.
Serco Ryan currently also stock around 80,000 separate product lines and their impartial technical advice is available to all customers and includes engineered sealing and fastening solutions as well as manufacturing cost reduction studies.
Large stocks guarantee supply availability and a strict policy of only supplying quality products ensure that Serco Ryan customers always have their expectations fulfilled.
