Counter flow probe detects leaks in confined space

A Sensistor Technologies product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Oct 21, 2004

Counter flow probe, developed as an accessory to a hydrogen leak detector, locate leaks in enclosed spaces such as pneumatic cabinets, engine rooms, airplanes, or boats.

Sensistor Technologies, an established leader within the leak detection and leak testing industry, has developed the AP-57 Counter Flow Probe as an accessory to its premier product, the H2000 Hydrogen Leak Detector, for instances when the use of a tracer gas is necessary to locate leaks in enclosed spaces such as pneumatic cabinets, engine rooms, airplanes, or boats.

The instrument provides a unique capability: due to the design of the handheld probe, users can locate leaks that are out of sight or in confined spaces.

The AP-57 is easy to use and can adapt to any problem.

Unlike a typical probe that will register a high gas content in an area as a whole to identify a leak, the AP-57 allows the operator to activate a suitable counter-flow that minimizes the effect of the background.

The detector emits a very distinct signal when the tip of the probe is placed in front of the leak.

The unit contains a pump that purges the probe in the handle with fresh air via the cable.

This creates a small zone of clean air directly front of the sensor.

Gas in the background cannot enter the clean zone, whereas gas from the leak can.

The AP-57 is an active probe belonging to a family of instruments based on the hydrogen method.

This method involves injecting a safe, environment-friendly tracer gas containing 5 % hydrogen in nitrogen into the test object.

A unique, 100% selective hydrogen sensor gives the operator leak location and size information via the H2000 instrument.

* About Sensistor Technologies - Sensistor Technologies is the original pioneer of using hydrogen gas as a tracer for leak detection.

The company manufactures high quality instrumentation for industrial leak testing and leak locating for a number of applications such as HVAC systems, medical implants, (more) and automotive parts, as well as portable hydrogen-based systems for locating leaks in telecom, water supply, petrol, power and gas industries.

Customers include major manufacturers throughout the world.

Sensistor is headquartered in Sweden, with offices in Frankfurt, Germany and Boston, Massachusetts.
