Open house attracts GBP 1.1m of lathe orders
Eight companies placed orders totalling GBP 1.1 million for nine multi-axis, CNC sliding-headstock lathes at Star Micronics GB's open house, held from 13th to 17th June.
Orders to the value of GBP 1.1 million for nine multi-axis, sliding-headstock lathes were placed by eight firms at Star Micronics GB's open house, held from 13th to 17th June at the company's showroom and technical centre in Melbourne, Derbshire.
"This was an excellent result in the current climate and we were very pleased to welcome three new users into the fold," said Bob Hunt, managing director.
Eight of the machines were acquired by subcontractors, one of which - B and D Patterns in Hinckley - unexpectedly ordered two top-specification SV-32s to bring its total investment in Star lathes this year to GBP 750,000.
Another SV-32 went to a motion control equipment manufacturer in the Midlands while two more went to existing customers.
Three mid-range SR-20RII lathes were sold, one to a new customer specialising in medical work.
An entry Star model, SA-16RC, completed the tally of machines ordered.
Hunt commented, "Our decision to open for all five days was not truly rewarded on the Monday and Friday, but the middle days were very busy".
"As usual, we were supported by supplier companies in the tooling, mist extraction, cutting oils, swarf conveying and finance sectors, and they also received good enquiries at the show.".
