An innovative competition - 'In The Fast lane' - was launched by Star GB on the first morning of MACH 2006 as an incentive for customers to invest in the latest, high-productivity sliding-headstock lathes.
The competition runs until June 2007 and will end with the winners receiving prizes worth many thousands of pounds.
Purchase of a Star multi-axis mill-turning centre will automatically entitle a customer representative to participate in one of a series of hospitality days at Donington Park in Leicestershire, one of Britain's most popular racing circuits (www.donington-park.co.uk).
He or she will feel the exhilaration of driving a Ferrari 355, an MG ZR and a Formula Ford around the track, and at the end there will be a carting competition.
Marks will be awarded by Donington staff for each activity during three heats (20th October 2006, January 2007 and March 2007), not just for speed but also for style and skill on the track and through a slalom course.
The highest placed drivers from each heat will go forward to the Grand Final in June 2007, at which the driver in 1st place will win a GBP 25,000 voucher for his company, redeemable against its next purchase, be it a Star slider or FMB bar magazine.
2nd and 3rd places will receive GBP 10,000 and GBP 5,000 vouchers respectively.
There will also be prizes to recognize the achievements of the winning drivers.
Commented Star GB's managing director, Bob Hunt, "We like to think that everyone that enters our competition will be a winner, because even those that are unplaced during the heats or miss out on the prizes will remember their Donington experience for a very long time." He said: "People who have driven the circuit have described it as dramatic, thrilling, adrenalin-fuelled excitement.
We shall certainly be putting our customers In The Fast Lane during the next 12 months, both literally and in terms of the enhanced productivity they can expect from their latest Star machines.".
