Roger Innes of Inro says that he has based his company's rapid growth over the last three years mainly on the purchase of Japanese-built Star CNC lathes through A and S Precision
Star said it makes it the leader in the sliding-headstock lathe sector by such a large margin that its sales are not far short of the total machines delivered by the second- and third-placed sliding-head lathe suppliers put together.
The information was collated from western European countries including the UK, but do not include machines installed in the old 'Eastern Bloc' countries, which are still relatively few at present.
Star GB's managing director, Bob Hunt, said: "It is pleasing to see Star in the number one position in Europe.
Last year's total represents a significant increase in unit sales of new machines over the previous year.
World sales for Star were also buoyant in 2007, which turned out to be a record year for the Japanese manufacturer.".
