Versatile sliding head auto can broach
and hob
Specifically developed to provide excellent access for setting and producing features like whirling high pitch this sliding head automatic can polygon turn, broach and gear hob in cycle.
Believed to be the only CNC sliding head auto constructed on a highly stable polymer-concrete composite machine bed which weighs some 3.9 tonnes, the latest ML26 Version D of the Southern Germany built Maier CNC sliding head automatic lathe is totally servo-controlled which eliminates any need for hydraulics, ensures highly repetitive cycles at maximum tool performance without lost operating time on high tensile steel or even hardened bar material Through its 5.5kW main and 3.7kW secondary spindle and triple carriage configuration set on well-dimensioned re-circulating slideways the machine is able to hold up to 18 tools of which 12 are driven

The installation of an 'electronic' lathe has saved up to a third in machining times over previous methods for copper welding arms and released CNC machines for higher volume work.
VMC has higher rigidity, faster acceleration
Higher levels of rigidity, fast acceleration and rapid traverse rates for spindle positioning and simultaneous five-axis operation feature a modular nachining centre for wet or dry machining.
Now installed at the StarragHeckert UK showroom in Brackley, it is able to demonstrate three separate tools cutting a workpiece at the same time.
By using modular construction techniques, the ML26 can be specified in five variants to produce components up to 26mm capacity by 220mm stroke length.
However, the nine-axis Version D has 8,000 revs/min main and secondary spindles controlled by Fanuc 16iT as standard with options of 160iT.
With the 160iT control a 15 MB hard drive is incorporated with Windows 2000 operating software that enables full graphical process simulation, Ethernet connection and remote diagnostics to be performed.
The machine in its Version D specification incorporates a four station, front working attachment driven by 1.5kW motor, and a four station 1.5kW all-driven tool back machining attachment.
As an option, tooling capacity can be extended through a Y2 backworking platen station which enables three turning and six driven tools to be utilised.
Rapid traverse rates are 32 m/min.
The machine has been specifically developed to provide excellent access for setting and producing component features such as high pitch threads used on medical screws which can be produced using thread whirling techniques up to 210 mm in thread length.
The machine is also able to polygon turn, broach and gear hob in cycle.
With full C-axis on both spindles, cross milling and face milling can also be accomplished.
A fully programmable high pressure 150 bar coolant system is available as an option.
Off-line programming software is available with the flexibility to easily modify tool and operational sequences.
A range of right angle drilling and milling heads as well as quick-change tool holders can be specified.
