A breakthrough in achieving low-cost cleaning of small batches of metal, plastic or glass components using non-halogenated solvents has been achieved by a compact cleaning system.

A breakthrough in achieving low-cost cleaning of small batches of metal, plastic or glass components using non-halogenated solvents has been achieved following the development by Durr Ecoclean of a new compact cleaning system The new system incorporates energy saving continuous distillation and solvent preparation which enables a higher efficiency and optimised cleaning solution to be achieved

The compact Minio 85C, which is now available from StarragHeckert UK of Brackley, has been developed to enable localised cleaning of components such as in a manufacturing cell or assembly area and has a floor footprint of just 1000mm by 2000mm.

Even though the machine is compact, this single chamber, front- loaded hydrocarbon cleaning system has a basket size of 380mm by 220mm by 200mm and, dependent on treatment time and process, it can handle up to six loads an hour each weighing up to 50kg.

The closed-loop system uses a single stage immersion cleaning process with 360 deg rotation, injection flood washing, vapour degreasing and vacuum drying with the ability to maintain virtually zero emissions.

Double, full-flow filtration is used for each cleaning process and continuous vacuum distillation ensures the cleaning medium is maintained at a consistently high level of operational quality.

In addition, with the capability of the Minio 85C to recover heat used during the cleaning process, overall energy consumption is minimised.

Process control is via a plain text display Siemens S7 PLC unit which has up to eight customer specific programming cycles.

Options include a second flood tank for obtaining even finer levels of cleaning, ultrasonics, exhaust condenser, drying booster and connection for external water cooling.
