Automotive standard modular centre can
flow turn

Now available from StarragHeckert UK of Brackley, the Niles-Simmons N10/2 is the smallest capacity turning centre in the N-series stable of five basic machine frames.
Its development was targeted at high production crank and camshaft type machining processes as well as gear shaft, housing and similar close tolerance work and has the in-built rigidity for hard turning type applications under production conditions.
Important for users demanding higher productivity is the capability to perform simultaneous machining of different features of a component which can be achieved by specifying the twin turret variant or for 'one-hit' sequences with the inclusion of the opposed headstock spindle which can be served by its own turret.

Built on a 30 degrees grey cast iron slant bed which utilises a cross-section involving triple chambers, swing over the bed is 400mm and maximum turning lengths up to 1250mm are available.
The high precision, direct drive 37.5kW AC spindle has up to 384Nm of torque and will reach 5,000 revs/min as standard and has a 6,000 revs/min option.
There is also an option to specify a high resolution 100 revs/min C-axis which is able to develop 300Nm of torque and is ideal for heavy duty milling tasks.
Twelve station disk-type turrets have all-powered tool positions giving 10 to 6,000 revs/min from 10Nm torque drive with internal coolant supply as standard but customised interface for special applications can be integrated into the machine.
Y-axis feed can also be specified.
Rapid traverse rates are 40m/min in X and Z axes.
Two-axis collision protection between turrets, spindles and slides is standard.
When the programmable NC tailstock is specified, the 110mm diameter hydraulically actuated quill is height adjustable.
Control of the Niles-Simmons N10/2 is by Siemens 840 D with flat screen colour graphics, 256 K-byte program storage and absolute linear scale positioning.
A wide range of automation and machine linking packages, integrated measuring with on-line linking can be specified with the capability to perform real-time SPC data analysis and tool offset and sister tool strategies.
