Following the acquisition of the Ingersoll range of EDM by OPS to form OPS-Ingersoll Funkenerosion, StarragHeckert UK has been appointed as sole UK and Eire agent for OPS-Ingersoll products.

Following the acquisition of the Ingersoll range of electro-discharge machines (EDM) by high speed machining and mould and die specialist OPS to form OPS-Ingersoll Funkenerosion, Brackley based StarragHeckert UK has been appointed as sole UK and Eire agent for its advanced gantry and portal style machines.

The OPS-Ingersoll six machine range of gantry and portal style EDMs spans the compact Gantry 400, a 400mm by 300mm by 300mm four-axis CNC-EDM-Centre with 64-bit Multipulse generator and 50kg workhead loading to the 1550mm by 2750mm by 1000mm axis travel portal design Gantry 2000.

This machine is able to process workpieces such as complete automotive bumper moulds with electrodes weighing up to 1500kg.

StarragHeckert UK already markets the OPS high speed 40,000 revs/min 400, 600 and 800 vertical machining centres which have established a high reputation for machining graphite, copper, aluminium as well as tool steels up the 64 HRC.

The purchase and addition to the portfolio of the Ingersoll EDM product range is seen as complementary by StarragHeckert UK managing director Paul Maynard who maintains: "The EDM product takes us into a new area with existing and potential new business from the mould and die sector.

We will also have a specialist in-house to provide full sales and application support for the technology.".
