DataLase (formerly Sherwood Technology), originators of the award winning DataLase process, will be demonstrating its high speed coding and marking solution, DataLase Packmark during PACK EXPO 2006.

This unique process uses a laser reactive coating, which undergoes a colour change reaction when imaged with a CO2 laser.

DataLase will also be showcasing the revolutionary new alternative to print and apply labels for outer case secondary packaging, DataLase Casemark.

Both of these solutions will be demonstrated on booth S3018 at PACK EXPO International, McCormick Place, Chicago, Illinois, USA, October 29 - November 2, 2006.

Packmark is a unique, patent-pending, coding and marking solution designed for applying high speed, on-demand variable information to primary packaging materials.

By implementing DataLase Packmark brand owners enjoy increased productivity, image stability and an environmentally friendly and low maintenance process.

Due to the stability of the image produced, this novel solution, which has a wide range of applications relating to coding, marking and tracking and tracing, provides extreme protection for brand integrity.

Another unique benefit to brand owners is the consistent verification of bar codes on the packaging resulting in increased reliability and efficiency.

DataLase Packmark is available via a number of licence partners in the ink, laser and converting industries and is currently being adopted by a number of leading companies in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries as well as packaging suppliers and printers.

Also to be demonstrated on booth S3018 will be the company's revolutionary DataLase Casemark label replacement solution.

Launched in May 2006, this fully integrated system is an alternative to the conventional self adhesive, thermal transfer printed labels and the large character inkjet printing applied to outer cases.

It works by applying the DataLase additive or coating onto the specific label area of the outer case as the packaging is being produced.

On the final production line, a computer controlled CO2 marking laser 'writes' the required label data onto the mark area causing a colour change reaction of the coating from white to black.

DataLase Casemark requires no ink on the production line, ribbons or applicators and is virtually maintenance free, achieving almost 100 per cent production uptime.

It is also potentially possible to achieve substantial cost savings of up to 30-50% for a medium to high volume production line with an investment payback time of less than a year.
