DataLase wins award

A DataLase product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Apr 11, 2007

DataLase announces that it has been awarded the "Highly Commended" accolade for DataLase CASEMARK, its alternative to print-and-apply labels, at the UK Packaging Awards.

The recognition, presented to DataLase, was in the Technical Innovation category and saw the company honored over five other industry leading companies.

The award recognized packaging innovations, from pack opening and dispensing solutions, new materials and structural forms to radio frequency identification applications.

The UK Packaging Awards 2006 are held in conjunction with Packaging News Magazine and are aimed at the entire packaging community to reward outstanding achievement.

The entries are judged by a large team of experts - typically buyers and specifiers - ensuring that winners of a UK Packaging Industry Award claim status, credibility and standing across the industry.

DataLase CASEMARK is a new fully integrated system which is an alternative to conventional self adhesive, thermal transfer printed labels and the large character inkjet printing applied to outer cases.

The DataLase ink is applied to packaging substrates at either the printing or converting stages, and once exposed to a low power CO2 laser undergoes a chemical reaction in the pigment, turning it from white to black.

Brand manufacturers utilize the laser to "write" data such as date codes or bar codes onto their packaging materials.

The award recognized the unique benefits offered by DataLase CASEMARK.

For example, brand owners can enjoy substantial cost savings of around 30-50% for a medium volume line with an investment payback time of less than a year.

Additionally, it is the only system capable of delivering a consistently verifiable bar code on-line-and-direct-to-carton.

Furthermore, this non-contact laser imaging process allows for late pack customisation to take place at any point in the packaging line and even within the retail chain.

This means that on-line marketing information such as special offers and promotions as well as brand and product changes can be readily updated eliminating the need for expensive reprints.

Steve Kelly, CEO of DataLase comments, "We are very pleased to receive this award".

"It is particularly meaningful as it has come directly from individuals with a wide variety of expertise in the industry, who have recognised the innovation and wide ranging applications of this groundbreaking product.".
