SSI signs up first inventory optimisation customers Supply network solutions provider SSI has signed an agreement with engineering group Meggitt plc (www.meggitt.com) to implement the Optimus inventory management methodology at two of its sites.

This methodology, supported by a sophisticated decision support tool, is used world-wide to reduce inventory levels and increase stock availability but has only recently been made available in the UK.

It is seen as a low investment, low risk alternative to the more expensive supply chain planning systems.

The Meggitt deal represents SSI's first contract since it signed a partnership deal with South African-based Optimus Inventory earlier this year.

SSI consultants are already on site at Meggitt Avionics at Fareham, Hampshire, and will begin implementation at Endevco in San Juan, California, in January 2002.

Meggitt designs and manufactures innovative high integrity systems and components for the aerospace, defence and electronics markets worldwide.

Aircraft primary flight displays, unmanned air vehicles, aircraft fire detection systems and automobile climate control systems are some of the market leading products produced by Meggitt.

"We're delighted to sign Meggitt as our first inventory optimisation client," says SSI MD Trevor Lewis.

"We're confident that we'll be able to realise substantial savings for the two companies." Kevin Boake, UK MD of Optimus Inventory, agrees: "Our methodology has been proven in many industries, particularly for companies like Meggitt, with a wide range of products for distribution," he says.

"Saving costs and rationalising inventory is critical in the present climate of economic uncertainty".
