Sheetmetalworld.com has announced the launch of a new service allowing companies and individuals the ability to auction new and used machine tools and accessories online The service operates in a similar way to other online auctions such as Ebay

Users can place items for auction online within several categories for no initial cost.

If the item sells, the seller pays a fee, based on sliding scale of approximately 1% depending on sale value.

Items can be made available for standard auction where the highest bidder wins, or for a fixed price that can be instantly purchased at any time during the auction's duration.

Pictures of items can also be placed (free) alongside the description, and potential buyers can make direct contact with sellers to confirm additional technical information if required.

Sellers can also make their items stand out by purchasing enhancements such as a bold listing or featured item, which will appear at the top of the chosen category or on the front of the auction site.

There are several main categories that sellers can place items for auction into, including: * Machinery (CNC and non-CNC).

* Tooling (punch, press Brake).

* Hand tools.

* Materials.

* Spare parts.

* Welding equipment.

New categories will be also be added as required.

The site also includes a number of advanced features to enhance the overall auction experience.

Users can adopt 'proxy bidding' - specifying the maximum amount they are willing to pay for an item.

The system will automatically bid on the user's behalf using the minimum increments allowed until either the user wins or is outbid.

Both buyers and sellers can leave feedback to give others an indication of what to expect from a user, based on previous trading history.

A spokesman for Sheetmetalworld.com commented; "We have already had many new and used machine tool companies tell us that they have achieved substantial sales through our classified ads section.

Online auctions are a natural progression and offers a much more structured, user-friendly and safe way to offer products to customers worldwide." About Sheetmetalworld: Sheetmetalworld.com has been online since 2000 and provides information and services specific to the fabrication industry worldwide.

The site has won several awards, including the GWA awards three years running.

Content includes news, vendor databases, exhibition information, discussion groups, trade associations, technical calculators and technical articles/tutorials.
