Shearline Goes Green With CHP Facility
Cambridgeshire-based Shearline Precision Engineering has completed the installation of a 250,000 GBP Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant at its showcase factory in Ely.
As well as substantially reducing energy consumption and costs, the CHP programme at its factory in Ely offers Shearline a number of additional benefits.
All of the heat produced from the engine at the heart of the CHP is recycled to power the powder-curing oven in its paint shop, which forms an integral part of the companies finishing capabilities.
Waste heat from the engine is also recycled using an absorption chiller to run the new air conditioning system, that circulates not only within the offices but throughout the shop floor.
Providing air conditioning throughout the factory is part of Shearline's unique offering.
Its integrated engineering service encompasses design for manufacture, CNC milling and turning, sheet metal laser cutting and fabrication, paint shop and silk screen printing and vacuum brazing.
Each stage of production, including finishing, assembly and shipment, is completed in-house.
Robert Halpin, Business Development Manager at Shearline commented, "We are delighted with the CHP plant; being a green company we are committed to environmentally friendly policies, many of which have massive benefits for business.
In addition to the CHP plant, we have converted our vehicle fleet to run solely on Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG), which is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to petrol or diesel." The company currently employs more than 120 skilled staff and has a range of world-class clients in markets as diverse as scientific and medical instrumentation, information and communications technology, security, automotive and inkjet printing.
