Milling cutter offers impressive removal
rates

Milling cutter performs facing, ramping, pocketing and plunging at very high feed rates at shallow depths of cut and directs cutting forces axially into the machine to improve stability.

XYZ is the largest supplier of CNC machine tools in the UK When the company recently tried out the Stellram 7792VXD, the results were nothing less than "amazing." In fact, that's the word that Mike Corbett, product manager at XYZ used to describe his reaction to the Stellram tool

The 7792VXD was placed in an XYZ Mini Mill, and set to cut a 180-280 HBN alloyed steel.

The machining length was 1200mm and depth of cut was 1mm.

Cutting speed was 200m/min.

Corbett's response after watching the tool in action: "I did not believe that a machine this size could handle that cut.

I was amazed." Total metal removal from the trial was over 200cm3.

And that meant that XYZ's Mini Mill, one of its flagship new products, offers remarkable versatility.

Stellram's new 7792VXD was designed for facing, ramping, pocketing and plunging at very high feed rates at shallow depths of cut.

Cutting forces are directed axially into the machine to improve stability and lessen spindle wear.

The tooling features inserts with four cutting edges for maximum economy.

Inserts are available in both 9 and 12mm sizes.

Insert geometry has been developed for machining all materials, including titanium and superalloys.

The positional accuracy of the pockets has been carefully engineered to produce a constant flow of swarf across each cutting edge to extend tool life.

Originally conceived as a roughing tool for mouldmakers, the 7792VXD is finding a much wider base of application across all industries concerned with lessening machining time and reducing costs.

"The success XYZ Machine Tools has seen with the 7792VXD is a demonstration of how versatile this tool can be," said Dave Watson, vice president of Stellram.

"We routinely get reports from customers showing dramatic reductions in machining time and costs using the 7792VXD." * About Stellram - Stellram, headquartered in Nashville, TN, USA, is a leading manufacturer and distributor of world class cutting tools in turning, milling, drilling, threading, and grooving for metalworking industries.

Stellram manufacturing centres located in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the United States have expertise in different areas that enable the company to offer a wide array of solutions - both standard and special.

Stellram's parent company, Allegheny Technologies, (NYSE: ATI) is one of the largest and most diversified specialty materials producers in the world.

High-value products include super stainless steel, nickel-based and cobalt-based alloys and superalloys, titanium and titanium alloys, specialty steels, tungsten materials, exotic alloys, which include zirconium, hafnium and niobium, and highly engineered strip and Precision Rolled Strip products.

The synergies between Stellram and its parent company aid both organisations in understanding hard-to-machine alloys and in developing improved metalworking tools and methods.

Through its relationship with Allegheny Technologies, Stellram has developed special capabilities for machining stainless steel, titanium, and cobalt and nickel based superalloys.
