Robot extends its reach
Being demonstrated by Staubli for the first time in the UK at Surface World 2001 Exhibition is the new extended reach robot model, designated RX 130XL.
Applications for multi-axis robots are increasing significantly in the UK as manufacturers recognise the benefits to be gained from this flexible and adaptable method of automation.
In response, robot manufacturers continue to develop models, which extend further the robot's capabilities.
Staubli Unimation, the leading manufacturer of multi-axis industrial robots, has introduced a new, longer reach, model into their successful RX range.
The new model extends the reach, at the wrist joint of the robot arm, by 60% over the standard model, while maintaining the high level operating performance associated with the other models in the range.
It is available in three variants: Standard RX version for general use across manufacturing industry.
Typical applications are machine loading/unloading, water or plasma jet cutting and assembly.
Being demonstrated by Staubli for the first time in the UK at Surface World 2001 Exhibition (NEC, Birmingham.
2 - 4 October 2001) is the new extended reach robot model, designated RX 130XL.
The extended reach allows a bigger footprint of machines to be serviced and larger components to be processed.
RXPAINT version specifically designed for paint spraying and powder coating applications.
The extended reach is particularly suited to large items such as TV cabinets and car bumpers.
It also provides the option of extending the spraying tray capacity of smaller items such as mobile phone covers.
RXFRAMS version, a robot based flexible measuring system for inline/offline metrology in the production environment.
The greater work envelope significantly increases the number of measuring points that can be accessed.
The new models complement the well known Staubli RX range of robots that are increasingly being recognised by users as offering high speed and acceleration coupled with the ability to follow complex trajectories at joint speeds of up to 1125 degrees per second.
The high degree of accuracy and repeatability make the RX ideal for the performance of detailed, meticulous tasks.
At the heart of each RX robot is the patented, unique, JCS gearbox providing zero backlash and consistent performance.
Most models can be floor, wall or ceiling mounted, handling capacity is up to a maximum load of 60kg.
The controlling software for a robot is of equal importance.
Improvements in the PC interface have been incorporated in the latest version of Staubli's paint spraying software, which is also being demonstrated at the Surface World Exhibition.
V_PAINT provides easy to learn, user-friendly programming of all RXPAINT robots.
Specific positions on the spraying trajectory can be input, three locations only are required to define the trajectory and the software will calculate all intermediate positions.
Spraying sequences can also easily be mirrored and painting parameters easily changed.
Over 13,000 Staubli robots are operating worldwide; their adaptability is demonstrated by the diversity of applications, these range from simple machine loading/unloading tasks to delicate cell culture work in the pharmaceutical sector.
Manufacturers are standardising on Staubli robots for all automation tasks right across their operations and benefiting from the increased familiarisation by fully exploiting the robot's extensive capabilities.
Staubli Unimation are at the Surface World 2001 Exhibition, NEC, Birmingham, 2nd - 4th October 2001.
Its stand is in Hall 3A No.
262 Staubli Unimation is an international family owned group founded over 100 years ago in Switzerland employing 2400 world-wide.
Robotic production is centred south of Geneva in the French Alps, with facilities across Europe, North and South America and the Far East, the UK base is in Telford.
