End mill sharpener cuts need for grinding tools

A 1st Machine Tool Accessories product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Oct 31, 2008

The Darex E-90 end mill sharpener from 1st Machine Tool Accessories provides an accurate method of refurbishing milling tools without the expense of special purpose cutter grinding equipment.

Enabling multi-flute end mills from 1.5 to 50mm diameter to be resharpened in house, the E-90 also ensures maximum tooling availability and allows users to minimise their tooling inventory.

Suitable for two, three, four and six-fluted end mills as standard, with optional five or eight-flute collets also available, the E-90 will sharpen both the primary and clearance angles on mill flutes and cutter ends in a single set up.

It produces the required clearance angles using a stylus mechanism and will refurbish twin-fluted 13mm end mills in around two minutes.

The E-90 accommodates flute lengths of up to 152mm and will normally achieve payback within 12 months, based on resharpening 10 tools per week.

It is equipped with a series of high-precision, C5 type collets to suit 5-25mm diameter mill shanks, or can be supplied with 32, 38 and 50mm diameter collet adaptors.

The sharpener utilises a resin-bonded, super-abrasive CBN wheel, which delivers optimum cutter surface finish without burning, as well as a service life of several hundred HSS or cobalt tools.

An optional 320 grit diamond wheel is also available for processing carbide tooling.
