Speed reducer eliminates coupling or
chain drive
Designed to be shaft mounted directly on a machine shaft, and restrained with the use of a torque arm or flange, this speed reducer eliminates the usual additional coupling or chain drive.
Power transmission specialists, Sumitomo Cyclo Europe have proudly launched the HSM as an addition to their expansive product portfolio, which was developed, designed and manufactured in Hull Sumitomo Cyclo Europe, whose UK operations are based in Hull, have been manufacturing their Shaft Mounted Speed reducer (SMSR) for many years, and now have a new model for the 21st century, the HSM (Helical Shaft Mounted gear reducer)

Space saving design on right angle geared motor
Offering unrivalled space saving design, the new Sumitomo Cyclo Europe NEO Hyponic boasts a highly compact and modular right angle geared motor
The HSM gearbox, although being a replacement and fully interchangeable with the SMSR, has been designed using Sumitomo's extensive engineering facilities as part of a two year design program, during which several prototypes were rigorously tested by engineers and product specialists.
Consultation and pre production units where then sent to key markets including United States and Asia for approval.
The existing SMSR is a market leader in many continents, and this new product will enable further penetration into new key target markets.
The product is designed to be shaft mounted directly on the machine shaft of the application, and restrained with the use of a torque arm or flange, thus eliminating the need for an additional coupling or chain drive.
The primary drive is most often via a belt drive from an electric motor, although the reducer is available with adapter input flanges for directly driven motors, both electric or hydraulic.
The model range is available in thirteen cases sizes ranging in output torque capacity to 44,000Nm, and with four ratios 5,13, 20 and 25:1.
The product is now available world-wide though Sumitomo's extensive sales operations and partners.
The HSM is also available with the Taper Gripa bush, which is also manufactured by Sumitomo Cyclo Europe in Hull.
This device is used for securing the HSM, and other Sumitomo shaft mounted products, to the driven shaft without the need for a key or keyway, thus offering a simple fitting procedure.
