As well as withstanding intermittent shock loads of 500% of the rated capacity, speed reducers have increased torque capacity, by as much as 12% compared to previous models.

Sumitomo's new 6000 Series Cyclo speed reducers employ a unique, proven principle, which distributes the load over many contact points, allowing them to withstand intermittent shock loads of 500% of the rated capacity In addition, the Cyclo 6000 Series has increased torque capacity, by as much as 12% compared to previous models, meaning that, in some applications, users are able to downsize, and benefit from significant cost savings

Sumitomo's Cyclo 6000 is unsurpassed by any other inline drive available in the market today, an assertion backed up by the fact that the Cyclo 6000 is the only reducer or gear motor offering 500% momentary peak loadings.

This means that the units are ideal for severe, high-shock applications, where they offer high efficiency, even at high reduction ratios.

In addition, as all Cyclo units offer almost frictionless operation, which all but eliminates conventional limitations due to heat, wear and tear is insignificant, and maintenance is minimal.

The key to Cyclo performance is a unique cycloidal design, which offers advantages in a number of areas compared to speed reducers using common involute tooth gears.

First, in the Cyclo 6000 design, all torque- transmitting components roll easily, and are symmetrically placed around shafts for perfectly balanced, smooth, vibration-free and quiet operation.

Second, because these components operate in compression, not in shear, they cannot shear off like traditional gear teeth.

Third, unlike gear teeth with limited contact points, a 6000 Cyclo unit has two thirds of its reduction components in contact at all times.

These components - unique cycloid discs - provide a smooth progressive rolling action that eliminates friction and the pressure points of conventional gears.

Fourth, as the drive shaft and the eccentric cam of the Cyclo units are the only components to rotate at high speed, the overall moment of inertia is unusually low.

This means that the Cyclo is ideally suited to frequent start-stopping-reversing duties, and for combination with frequency inverters.

Not only do Cyclo speed-reducers offer higher performance than other type of gearboxes in the same transmission class, they are also smaller and lighter and offer higher overall economy.

Reduction rations from 6:1 to 119:1 are available in just one stage, meaning that 3-step gearboxes offer potential transmission ratios of almost 1,000 000: 1.

Underlining the fact that CYCLO units offer exceptional life - tests on the speed-reducers show negligible wear after 50,000h of operation - they are all supplied with a factory-backed 24-month warranty.

* Cyclo: how it works - the Cyclo speed reducing system is based on an ingeniously simple principle that offers many benefits.

The speed reducer has only three major moving parts: 1.

High speed input shaft with an integral eccentric cam and roller bearing assembly.

2.

Cycloid disc.

3.

Slow speed output shaft assembly.

As the input shaft and eccentric cam rotate, it rolls the cycloid discs around the internal circumference of the stationary ring gear.

The resulting action is similar to that of a wheel rolling around the inside of a ring.

As the cycloid disc travels in a clockwise path around the ring, the wheel itself turns slowly on its own axis in the opposite (counter clockwise) direction.

Because of the curved, cycloidal profile of the cycloid disc, it progressively engages with the rollers of the ring gear housing to produce a reverse rotation at reduced speed.

For each complete revolution of the high speed shaft, the cycloid disc turns one cycloidal 'tooth' in the opposite direction.

The reduced rotation of the cycloid disc is transmitted to the slow speed output shaft to provide - speed reduction.
