Offering torque capacities up to 600,000Nm, and ratios up to 500:1, rugged gearboxes have a gear helix angle of 14 deg giving a greater number of teeth in contact.

Sumitomo's new Paramax 9000 gearboxes are designed for demanding industrial power transmission applications, where reliability and long life are paramount Offering torque capacities up to 600,000Nm, and ratios up to 500:1, the rugged Paramax units are ideal for a wide range of applications including materials handling, mining and quarrying, cranes, extruders, agitators and mixers, cooling tower drives, sugar processing and forestry equipment

The design of the Paramax 9000 features gears that have a helix angle increased to 14 deg; this results in a greater number of teeth in contact, providing higher performance and reliability, and also reduced levels of noise.

The same design also provides additional benefits with a 25 deg gear pressure angle that ensures greater tooth strength; making the Paramax units suitable for high overload conditions.

The optimised gears are enclosed in a universal cast iron, or optional ductile and fabricated housing, which accommodates both right- and left-hand applications, and horizontal, vertical and upright mounting.

Extremely rugged to minimise deflection under load, the housing is a customer cost-saving feature that allows reduced entry way widths and spares consolidation.

It enables users to optimise their applications for precise power, torque, speed and duty cycle, thus ensuring long life and cost-effective, efficient operation.

Designed using a unique concept of standardised gear sets, Paramax gearboxes deliver the economic benefit of direct gear set exchange between sizes: a facility that ensures commonality of spares and reduced costs for companies employing multiple Paramax units in their production.

The standardised concept offers 26 size variations for economical selection.

It also includes a new-design direct motor mount arrangement for right-angle and parallel offset units.

For users, this means no couplings or alignment is required, resulting in a more compact drive assembly.

The fully optimised design of the Paramax units ensures that they run cooler, quieter and offer higher levels of reliability than competitive units.

Improved cooling is the result of a new optimised fan design, while lower noise levels are the product of a combination of optimised gear teeth and the Paramax's rigid housing design.

These features, in combination with others, such as higher root tooth strength, heavy duty output bearings as standard, and seals with wear sleeves, are also central to the higher levels of reliability provided by Paramax units.

Available from Sumitomo as individual units, with right angle or parallel shaft configurations, or as integrated drive packages, the Paramax 9000 Series, like other Sumitomo gear products, is offered with a factory-backed two-year warranty.
