Leading Storage Company Increases Productivity by Standardizing Trade Compliance Processes Across the Enterprise

SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced that StorageTek (Storage Technology Corp., NYSE: STK), the storage services and solutions expert, has implemented SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) to automate and streamline trade compliance processes across the company's multiple global business units SAP GTS, a cross-industry commerce application, replaces a third-party export system in use at StorageTek's Puerto Rico facility and several manual trade processes in use at its other plants

With SAP GTS, StorageTek has enhanced its trade compliance process in order to support a secure supply chain, ensure full regulatory compliance and increase productivity across the enterprise.

After conducting an assessment of its internal global trade processes, StorageTek sought a proven software solution that could automate its export processes, reduce overall costs and be implemented rapidly.

"SAP was a clear choice for us, since its products easily met our functional requirements and the company has years of demonstrated high-tech industry experience," said Roy Perry, corporate vice president, Global Supply Chain Management, StorageTek.

Prior to the implementation of SAP GTS, StorageTek had to enter export details into the system by hand, creating a lengthy screening process that allowed room for error.

With the newly deployed solution in place, StorageTek is able to significantly reduce its process cycle time.

Within the first week following the SAP GTS implementation, StorageTek successfully screened more than 100,000 business partners against the sanctioned parties and embargoed countries lists and transferred 1,300 sales and transport orders from SAP R/3 software to SAP GTS for export license determination.

"Our customers rely on us for complete and on-time delivery of our products," added Perry.

"SAP automated and streamlined the way we perform regulatory checks at every step of our order-to-cash process, helping us to increase our customer service levels.

StorageTek successfully deployed SAP Compliance Management, a component of SAP GTS, in combination with SAP R/3 foreign trade functionality to automate partner screening, printing of export documentation, NAFTA preference and export license determination.

"We were able to quickly implement the desired export compliance processes across our global operations, boost employee productivity, consolidate IT systems and reduce overall costs," said Ron Yauk, corporate logistics manager, StorageTek.

SAP GTS utilizes open standards, including XML, and leverages components of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform to provide companies with a holistic approach to managing global trade activities across heterogeneous IT landscapes.

"As a well-known leader in the markets it serves, StorageTek is proactively and systematically addressing trade compliance with the help of SAP solutions," said Bill McDermott, CEO and president, SAP America "With the high-tech industry's top companies increasingly adopting SAP GTS, SAP is demonstrating leadership in solutions that address the complex issues around trade compliance.

SAP GTS is a strong business solution that can be implemented quickly, maximizes a company's existing IT infrastructure and delivers a quick return on investment.".
