Improving quality and lowering costs in
grinding
The Center for the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Advanced Abrasive Processes' first consortium is aimed at improved quality and lower costs in grinding operations.

While it is common to see competing manufacturers join with academic institutions in Europe, it is not typical in the U.S., even though under the proper direction it is proved to be a good model.
Despite that, response to the opportunity to share the cost of world-class RandD focused on grinding has been very positive.
Jim Camp of Service Network, which is an OEM builder of grinding machines, said: "It is very rewarding to see WPI's grinding center and this consortium a reality especially since domestic manufacturers operate under such competitive conditions." Camp went on to say, "This country (USA) must preserve high-value-added manufacturing, and this consortium helps do that." The 'kick off' meeting follows two days of seminars at Worcester Polytechnic Institute: one on surface metrology and the second on grinding.
