Plate type heat exchanger units are being used to heat to 50 deg C and cool acrylic monomer at the start of a kitchen sink composites manufacturing process.

Tranter International AB has demonstrated that its Ultramax plate heat exchanger units can handle everything including composite kitchen sink raw material with the installation of two units at Carron Phoenix's manufacturing plant in Falkirk, Scotland The Ultramax units are being used to heat and cool acrylic monomer (MMA) at the start of the manufacturing process

This needs to be heated to 50 deg C during resin manufacture.

Welded units were selected instead of standard plate heat exchangers with gaskets, as acrylic monomer has chemical characteristics which are not compatible with gaskets so welded units were the ideal solution.

Tranter's Ultramax units combine the compact, space saving footprint and proven efficiency of a plate heat exchanger in a gasket free, all-welded unit.

The welded unit overcomes the limitations of gasketed modals for handling liquids, gases and mixtures of the two at high pressures and temperatures.

For the most demanding applications welded heat exchangers offer optimum performance.

Carron Phoenix is the UK's largest dedicated sink manufacturer, and prides itself on the precision engineered nature of its products.

Therefore, when sourcing heat exchanger equipment for their composite sink manufacturing facility, Tranter were contacted.

Carron Phoenix has been very impressed with the trouble free nature of the Ultramax units.

"We sourced Tranter on quality, price, delivery and fit to purpose characteristics as our application was a highly demanding one due to the nature of the materials.

The two units have now been in operation for four years with no failures or downtime recorded," said the company.
