Confinement chamber avoids
cross-contamination
The ATA company (Applications Technologiques Avancees, or Advanced Technological Applications) is launching the CTMP, a confinement chamber for transporting biologically contaminated patients.
At the request of the French Army Health Service, the ATA company (Applications Technologiques Avancees, or Advanced Technological Applications) has developed the CTMP, a confinement chamber for transporting biologically contaminated patients The CTMP is more than just an air or land transport system; it provides for medical accompaniment (with its optional medical rack) and protects the patient and the external environment from cross-contamination

The CTMP is now being commercialised after several years of research supported by the French Agency for Innovation (ANVAR).
The first two units were delivered in September 2003 and the French Army Health Service plans to order several more.
Originally designed for transporting biologically contaminated patients, the CTMP is now attracting the interest of several French emergency medical services for other applications.

Klaxon Signals has developed industrial warning devices ranging from traditional motor driven sirens to advanced electronic sirens to warn of potential hazards.
In the near future its use will be extended to the transport of infectious patients (such as children with meningitis), serious burn cases, and inter-hospital transfer of patients with immune deficiencies.
Thanks to the CTMP and its accompanying medical rack, complex therapeutic interventions are possible without risk of breaching the confinement during patient transportation.
With complete 24-hour autonomy, the CTMP is suitable for long-distance trips.
The CTMP comprises two half-shells.
The lower half-shell supporting the patient incorporates a medical mattress with a fecal collection system.
Straps immobilise the patient, and five handles and two rails facilitate handling.
The upper half-shell is equipped with eight laterally-mounted manipulation gloves and two air-tight entry/exit systems that allow the use of consumables associated with monitoring, reanimation, blood sampling and therapeutic acts.
A total of twenty airtight connections (0.12 to 1.18 in.) enable medics to connect oxygen, monitoring cables, intravenous drips and other medical connections necessary for monitoring.
An external arm supports drips and a female dovetail support is provided for mounting an external LTV 1000 ventilator.
The efficient air circulation system ensures optimal air distribution and quality, which is vital for guaranteeing the patient's comfort inside the CTMP.
A technical area located near the patient's feet houses the inlet HEPA filtration unit and the outlet HEPA ventilation and filtration unit (both of H14 efficiency as per the EN 1822 standard) as well as the electronic management and regulation unit.
The airflow in the CTMP is constant, with a choice of three air-renewal rates: 30, 40 or 50 air changes per hour.
The CTMP operates at 50 Pa depression (at ground level and 50 air changes per hour).
Functional characteristics are as follows: dual-filter inlet filtration (G4 + H14); single-filter outlet filtration (H14); filtration efficiency: 99.999 per cent of 0.3um particles (99.995 per cent as per EN1822 standard).
The optional medical rack used to handle medical treatment in the CTMP is equipped with a monitoring device (Wellch Allyn Propaq Encore), a ventilator (Breas LTV 1000), an aspirator (Weinmann Accuvac Rescue), two syringe pumps (Fresenius Vial Pilot A2), a semi-automatic defibrillator (Laerdal FR2), and an oxygen bottle housing (3l at 200bar).
It can function for six hours on batteries and 24 hours with an external connection.
