Packaging robots near automatic tool change

Schubert has developed automated method for coupling tools to its TLM robots and is closer to achieving automatic tool change facility on its machines.

Automated packaging company, Schubert, said it is getting closer to achieving an automatic tool change system on its machines.

At the Interpack show, Schubert showed an automated method for coupling tools to its TLM robots.

The system eliminates the time-consuming, manual plugging and unplugging needed to make a tool change.

Schubert told manufacturingtalk that its tool change system will typically reduce machine resetting time by up to 8 min and eliminate the risk of control failures caused by loose contacts.

The tool connects itself to the robot as both incorporate electrical couplers.

The tool's coupler is programmed with a pre-set code so that the robot can check that the tool matches the correct application.

Chief executive of Schubert, Gerhard Schubert, said: "This new contactless control link capability is an essential stepping stone towards achieving automatic tool change, which promises to trigger the biggest single transformation in the world of packaging machine technology in the near future".

Schubert also launched its TLM-PK system at Interpack.

It featured an integrated Fuji form fill and seal machine.

Schubert now offers to fully integrate components from partner companies into TLM packaging lines.

A new extended warranty is also available on all Schubert machines and covers more than double the number of service hours under the previous guarantee.

The new warranty covers parts for 5000h up to a year on a two-shift operation in place of 2000h.

* Technical support and spares.

In recent months, Schubert said that it had supplied numerous automated packaging systems to the food, drinks, healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.
