Football forms the metaphor for an e-learning programme on manpower planning, produced by the global e-learning producer, Tata Interactive Systems (TIS), for Royal Mail.
According to Howard Lincoln, the Ufi's programme manager: "We have instigated a framework agreement which augments the Ufi's traditional qualified supplier agreement.
Although the Ufi has some 400 'qualified suppliers', it wanted to identify a small number of e-learning materials suppliers with which it could work on a more efficient and effective basis." The Ufi's nine approved suppliers are: TIS; Epic; Intuition; Tinnopolis; Learning Inc; Bourne Training; Line; Fuel, and Cylix.
Lincoln explained: "The approvals process ended in August and we are starting to issue briefs to these suppliers for some new e-learning products.
These products will cover IT skills and 'skills for life', but there will also be some new e-learning materials that relate to specific sectors of the UK economy.
"Our criteria for being an approved supplier - which TIS met - included operating at a high degree of technical capability; being capable of interpreting complex technical requirements; having extensive project management expertise, and being willing to work with the Ufi to develop e-learning materials of an exceptionally high standard." Lincoln continued: "TIS also met the criteria to be appointed under a second framework agreement - to maintain the Ufi's existing products.
"We have a great many 'legacy' products, built up over four years," he said.
"These need periodic updating and maintenance, ranging from correcting spelling mistakes in the text to amending the content and making it more 'accessible' to conform with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.
"TIS is one of only three suppliers - along with Fuel and SkillsPro - with the project management skills and technical ability to update and maintain courseware produced by a third party.".
