Users of mill-turn centres who are disillusioned with the suitability of VDI tooling systems for driven tooling, are being offered a system that takes collets and other tooling adaptors.

The new Duplomatic Preci-Flex, available in the UK from TDT Technology, is a tooling system that employs a single base holder capable of accommodating collets as well as many other tooling adapters Manufacturers and sub-contractors have become increasingly disillusioned with the conventional VDI tooling systems that are commonly applied to CNC milling and turning centres

As VDI was originally designed for non-driven tooling, its use for modern driven tooling applications means that it falls short in a number of areas, including power availability, pre-setting, rigidity and machining accuracy.

The combination of these factors means that there is little synergy of VDI systems with current progressive manufacturing requirements.

The Duplomatic Preci-Flex, however, is designed to address this situation.

The innovative Preci-Flex equipment makes use of a collet interface (DIN 6499), as well as a combination conical and flat face interface for exceptionally secure and rigid mounting of tools.

With conical fitting, the cone is deformed resulting in higher clamping forces.

This more positive tool location provides additional benefits such as increased machining accuracy and the ability to accommodate extra power output.

With a total run out of just 0.01mm and a repeatability of 0.005mm maximum, the compact Preci-Flex offers customers an unprecedented level of accuracy, and state-of-the-art tool clamping.

Other advantages include increased rigidity and flexibility as well as the fact that it can be easily pre-set.

It can also be applied to a wide range of components, including heavy duty cutting applications, offering extended tool life and simple changeover.

The limited accuracy, torque transmission and clamping power associated with traditional collets can now be relegated to a thing of the past.

By using Preci-Flex, manufacturers have the opportunity to generate considerable savings from increased productivity and reduced set-up times, ensuring a rapid return on investment.
