Stephen Giles has been appointed UK and Ireland Country Manager for Tecnomatix Technologies, the software solutions company for Manufacturing Pro

Stephen Giles has been appointed UK and Ireland Country Manager for Tecnomatix Technologies, the software solutions company for Manufacturing Process Management (MPM) Since he joined Tecnomatix in 1998 Stephen has played a key role in helping the company to expand from being a supplier of CAPE (Computer-Aided Production Engineering) applications to its leading position today as a provider of manufacturing process planning solutions, serving a wide range of UK-based manufacturing OEMs and their suppliers

"Through MPM our customers are achieving significant competitive advantages by accelerating new product introductions and rapidly implementing design changes.

Other important benefits include compressing the time taken to ramp-up time to volume and the ability to efficiently transfer manufacturing processes between plants," says Stephen Giles.

In particular Tecnomatix is pre-eminent in aerospace, automotive, electronics and heavy engineering.

Having developed from process simulation and off-line programming for robots, the company now offers end-to-end MPM solutions covering all activities connected with the planning and engineering of manufacturing processes.

Whilst the focus remains on bridging the gap between product design and manufacture, MPM provides the overall IT environment which is required to support collaboration within the extended enterprise and the outside world.

"This means bringing together additional input from the product data and the manufacturing execution system to define the total production process and associated logistics," explains Stephen.

"There are three main elements.

The first of these is the planning workflow and integration with the product data and manufacturing resources.

Second comes the detailed engineering of workstation or line operations and tools and third is the facility to define the manufacturing processes in a way that can be communicated by web browser over the Internet." Stephen Giles stressed that Tecnomatix will continue to sell and support its traditional CAPE applications saying.

"To do that successfully however we need to grow our involvement in manufacturing process management through strategic partnerships." Additionally, to keep up the momentum on its traditional CAPE applications software, Tecnomatix is teaming with a number of established software vendors who are already providing complementary products within target market sectors.

A physics graduate from Durham University 1980, Stephen's career in engineering started with Rolls Royce Aero Engines in Derby where he worked in a variety of research, product development and test roles.

In 1984 he joined IBM UK as an industrial engineer for three years and then moved into sales, managing a number of industrial, manufacturing and utility customers.

Prior to joining Tecnomatix Stephen was employed by Parametric Technology for five years with responsibility for the sales on large accounts.
