Discussing collaborative e-Manufacturing
Harel Beit-On, President and CEO of Tecnomatix Technologies, is a keynote speaker on trends in collaborative e-Manufacturing at Daratech's SUMMIT2001 conference, Boston, U.S.
Delivering competitive advantage - a key advantage provided by eM-TolMate is in the acceleration of the process for testing new designs, especially in terms of costs and efficiency in manufacturing.
Studies by eM-TolMate can be started before the commitment is taken to invest in production plants, thereby reducing the risks associated with new product introductions.
By providing greater flexibility, the technology also allows Magna Steyr to respond quickly to new business opportunities and requests for modifications and product variants.
In operation, eM-TolMate identifies the key characteristics of compound products and simulates their effect on tolerances, allowing users to measure the impact of the tolerances on the assembly before a product is even placed into production.
In addition to identifying critical tolerances, the results can be used to refine process methods and determine the most efficient assembly sequence.
The Tecnomatix eMPower Quality software is fully integrated with the CATIA computer-aided design facilities as part of the Magna Steyr corporate digital development and manufacturing planning environment.
Commenting on the selection, August Kriebernegg, Head of Department for Magna Steyr Engineering said: "Deciding factors were the reliability of results generated by eM-TolMate and its open architecture which allows the software to be fully integrated within our existing information technology infrastructure.
This will enable us to communicate results effectively and achieve the maximum benefit in terms of planning new product development.".
