To improve the creation, optimization, and management of its new product introduction, Asia's second-largest electronics manufacturing services provider is to used advanced software systems.

Further demonstrating its leadership in the challenging electronics market, Tecnomatix Technologies (NASDAQ: TCNO) has announced that Asia's second-largest provider of electronics manufacturing services (EMS), Hon Hai Precision Industry Co has selected eMPower for Electronics solutions from Tecnomatix Unicam to improve the creation, optimization, and management of its New Product Introduction (NPI) and test processes

Tecnomatix Unicam is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tecnomatix Technologies.

As part of the deal, Hon Hai (registered as Foxconn in the United States) will begin the immediate implementation of eMPower PCB Assembly and Test - an end-to-end solution suite enabling the quick, accurate and cost-effective introduction of new products to the shop floor through the use of a common transfer mechanism.

With their support for a wide range of machine interfaces, excellent optimization facilities and line balancing capabilities, eMPower PCB Assembly and Test solutions help EMS vendors like Hon Hai significantly improve process management and throughput.

"It's no secret that today's EMS market is plagued with dramatic cost-cutting maneuvers on a global scale - as each vendor strives to maximize ever-thinning margins," said James Hsu, manufacturing engineering manager at Foxconn.

"But the smart players, the true market leaders, are investing in new technologies - those that enable quicker New Product Introductions (NPI) at lower costs without sacrificing quality.

That's why we chose to work with Tecnomatix Unicam.

By implementing their eMPower solutions, we can work smarter and faster to keep up with the demands of our customers." Supporting the "Plan Anywhere, Build Anywhere" strategies of today's competitive EMS players, eMPower PCB Assembly and Test solutions can help significantly shorten manufacturing cycle times and increase machine throughput - helping users dramatically shorten overall time-to-market and time-to-volume.

eMPower solutions for outsourcers and distributed manufacturers provide a collaborative environment to communicate and manage manufacturing information.

Product designers can share data with NPI centers.

NPI centers can then transfer the process to their volume plants and allow insight into the process while it is being designed, after it has been completed, and during its execution.

For NPI and volume manufacturing, eMPower provides a collaborative environment where planners and engineers can author, simulate, execute and manage printed circuit-board and box-build assembly processes.

Its open platform and suite of applications address the need to introduce, roll-out, transfer and monitor electronic product assembly processes and estimate their costs.

"In the fast-growing Asian electronics marketplace, EMS providers are looking for ways to connect seamlessly to their customers as one virtual enterprise," said Israel Levy, CEO, Tecnomatix Unicam, "With eMPower for Electronics solutions, major EMS players like Hon Hai can expedite their NPI process, and more effectively integrate and unify their production and testing processes, thus reducing their operating costs and time-to-market.".
