Preparing UK fastener users for RoHS compliance

A TFC Europe product story

Fastening specialist has announced measures to help its customers ensure that the components they source comply with the new RoHS regulations, which become UK law on July 1st.

Fastening specialist TFC has announced new measures to help its customers ensure that the components they source comply with the new Restriction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) regulations, which become UK law on July 1st.

The RoHS directive restricts the use of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium (Cr6), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB's) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE's), specifically in electronic and electrical equipment.

Recognising that many of its customers will be affected by the new directive, TFC has integrated some simple changes into its existing purchasing processes to aid RoHS compliance.

The changes include the phasing in of green 'RoHS compliant' stickers that will eventually be added to all compliant stock packaging delivered to customers.

TFC will also supply RoHS compliance declarations on request and, where applicable, TFC part number suffix codes will be changing to accommodate the new compliant finishes now being used.

"By implementing these changes now, we hope to eliminate any inconvenience to our customers once the new directive becomes law in July," commented TFC sales director Barry Tibble.
