A high capacity linear motion guide that is capable of transporting extremely high loads of up to 780 tonnes offers very low levels of rolling resistance, enabling heavy loads to be moved.

THK, the world's leading manufacturer of linear motion solution, has launched a new high capacity linear motion guide that is capable of transporting extremely high loads of up to 780 tonnes - the equivalent of four unladen Boeing 747 jumbo jets.

Called the JUP, the new linear guide also offers both exceptionally low levels of rolling resistance, enabling heavy loads to be moved with minimal force, and high degrees of positional accuracy to within +/-0.1%.

The JUP type LM guide is unique in its construction and load bearing strength.

This derives from the use of THK's patented Caged Ball technology, which is incorporated in the load bearing carriage.

The Caged Ball system essentially comprises rows of equally separated, precision ground steel balls, contained within a cage with pockets of lubricating grease, to provide precise and consistent motion.

Each row of balls runs in precision ground circular arc raceways, positioned between the block and rail, and set at a 45deg angle to the guide rail to give equal capacity in all four directions (radial, reverse radial and lateral directions), greater precision and reduced variation in rolling resistance.

In the new JUP linear guide, THK has extended the Caged Ball concept by incorporating six Caged Ball sets into the carriage to increase its load bearing capabilities.

This has been achieved without increasing the coefficient of friction, which is typically lower than 0.01, or affecting noise, heat or long term operating reliability.

In addition, the JUP linear guide shares the same low maintenance features associated with all THK products.

The new JUP linear guide is available in a choice of carriage and rail sizes, with carriages ranging from 170 to 290mm in height, 330 to 560mm in width and 435 to 740mm in length.

As individual guides are best when combined to create multiple carriage and rail structures this increases load carrying capacities still further.
