Novel cross guide cuts machine build time
The latest high accuracy, virtually maintenance free linear Caged Ball guide has been developed to help machine builders and OEMs reduce design and assembly time and cost.
The latest high accuracy linear Caged Ball guide from THK UK has been developed to help machine builders and OEMs reduce design and assembly time and cost.
Called the cross LM guide type SCR, the new guide benefits from THK Caged Ball technology, has a unique construction, is virtually maintenance free and is suitable for use in a wide range of applications.
The SCR is essentially constructed from four THK LM guides, in two parallel sets, mounted perpendicular to each other to form a cross.
The fully integrated unit guarantees smooth consistent motion at high speeds, is extremely accurate, typically to within 2 micron in every 100mm of travel, and provides an extremely stable platform on which to construct linear motion systems.
The cross rail structure enables the guideway to make complex planar movements, while use of THK Caged Ball technology ensures equal load ratings on each guide rail in the radial, reverse radial and lateral directions.
Caged Ball technology also means that each guide section in the new SCR produces less noise, has far smoother motion, even when used in vertical mounting, and has a longer service life than competing guides.
Using the SCR, machine builders and OEMs can now specify one complete unit, as opposed to separate guides, rails and mounting blocks.
In addition to saving design and specification time, the new product also significantly reduces assembly time and eliminates potential problems of misalignment in the X and Y axes.
The SCR can be used in any mounting orientation and is available in several models: the SCR 25, 30, 35, 45 and 65 with heights ranging from 70 to 180mm.
The model widths vary from 88 to 226mm and the lengths from 109 to 226mm.
Precision, super precision and ultra precision accuracy grades of the cross Caged Ball LM SCR type are available, with each being supplied with a choice of contamination protection devices such as end seals, double seals and scrapers.
Typical applications include inspection devices, printed circuit board assembly machines and X and Y axes control of horizontal machining centres.
