If an existing air compressor is beginning to show its age, as one did at a presswork plant, then it is time to change it for one that would be more efficient, economical and environmentally friendly.

WR Pressings of Brighouse, suspected that their existing compressor had seen 'better days' and called in compressed air specialists, Thorite, to give their compressed air system a health check Thorite carried out a data-logging exercise and reported that the old compressor was highly inefficient

Thorite advised replacing the compressor with a new, energy efficient HPC variable speed compressor, complete with a new dryer and filtration system to improve compressed air quality.

The HPC compressor selected, model BSD 72 SFC, automatically speeds up or slows down to match its compressed air output.

In this way it matches the varying demand from WR Pressings' pneumatic machinery at any given time, rather than constantly running at full output.

The variable speed facility of the new HPC compressor has enabled WR Pressings to save over GBP 2,000/year on electricity consumption alone, whilst the higher quality of compressed air feeding the machinery also leads to reduced downtime.

* About WR Pressings - WR Pressings is based in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, UK and provides a full range of toolmaking and pressings services to a range of industrial clients, particularly in the automotive, electronics and engineering markets.

* About Thorite - Thorite has built a reputation for expertise in the selection, supply, installation and servicing of the finest pneumatic products and process systems currently available.

Although no two compressed air users' needs are quite the same, the company said it can be relied upon to provide the most cost effective and energy-efficient solutions to any problem.
