Rapid tooling to be developed jointly
3D Systems Corp. and DSM Desotech will develop and jointly market non-liquid stereolithography (SL) hardware, software and materials for rapid tooling and in-line manufacturing processes.
Both materials offer mechanical properties similar to thermoplastic.
"SL 5240 can produce parts that are durable enough for functional testing, in some cases eliminating the need for interim steps such as bridge tooling," says Grant Flaharty, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing.
"Yet, the material's durability does not come at the cost of accuracy.
Both properties are achieved with the added benefits of fast build speeds and minimal post-processing." SL 5240 is ideal for use in production components, which enables customers to delve into more customised, sort-run manufacturing with the SLA 250 system.
"Custom manufacturing is driving the need for functional materials such as SL 5240," says Grant Flaharty.
"Our growing base of durable materials is opening the door for manufacturers to create finished, customised parts straight from our solid imaging machines.
As a result, our stereolithography technology is moving from basic rapid prototyping into custom manufacturing applications.".
