Tibco improves efficiencies at Severstal
Severstal Columbus has chosen the Tibco Spotfire enterprise analytics platform to improve the management of its business, its manufacturing processes and operational efficiencies.
With Spotfire, Severstal Columbus will improve on standard practices by leveraging its informational assets and enabling professionals across both its business and manufacturing operations to discover insights that lead to better decisions and execution.
Severstal Columbus is a steel producer that is constantly monitoring, analysing and improving its high-volume, 24/7 manufacturing process.
Previously, Severstal Columbus used SQL and Excel reporting tools on top of SQL/Oracle datasets to manage its business and manufacturing processes.
However, when production ramped up and the amount of data increased when its new facility came on line in late 2007, the need for a more advanced set of reporting and collaboration tools was apparent.
Severstal could not access and analyse data across multiple processes at the speed of business, while the time required to create new dashboards and reports to monitor the business limited the company's ability to add and respond to new KPIs.
The Tibco Spotfire platform allows Severstal to connect to all key data sources - across financial, sales, marketing and production - without requiring the creation of a consolidated data warehouse.
In addition, Severstal employees can generate predetermined interactive reports with Spotfire faster than with traditional means.
This allows business managers across the company to access relevant data in a visual environment that quickly reveals problems, then allows them to ask and answer their own questions about what may be contributing to the problem.
By speeding the analysis process, employees can focus energy on identifying and correcting problems versus struggling to configure reports or waiting in IT queues.
'Tibco Spotfire technology will enable Severstal Columbus to implement an enterprise-wide reporting and analytics solution that leverages existing corporate information infrastructure and assets without disruption to ongoing business processes,' said Mikhail Smirnov, vice president of finance, Severstal Columbus.
