Total data quality earns accolade for BT

A Trillium Software product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Feb 12, 2007

British Telecommunications (BT) strategy for 'total data quality' across its worldwide organisation earns the company top honours at Trillium Software customer conference

Trillium Software, a business of Harte-Hanks and a leading enabler of Total Data Quality (TDQ) solutions, has announced that it has selected BT as its inaugural "customer of the year" based on the outstanding and long-term results the organisation has experienced as a result of leading edge data quality processes it has implemented.

According to Harte-Hanks Trillium Software, BT exemplifies the characteristics of a best-of-breed implementer, having found ways to exploit data quality to improve customer service, reduce operating costs and increase business performance.

BT estimates that during the last ten years, its Trillium Software-supported data quality initiatives have saved the company at least $800 million.

The selection process for the customer of the year was determined by an internal team at Harte-Hanks Trillium Software and is based on a number of criteria, including:.

- Innovative use of software in conjunction with emerging technologies (such as Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Master Data Management (MDM) and Customer Data Integration (CDI)).

- Technology design and utilisation, including collaboration between business and IT management.

- Re-allocation of personnel for more strategic use, better use of information to drive business operations and analysis.

- Documented and identifiable return on investment that exceeded initial expectations.

- Identification of new opportunities for growth or enhanced "core products or services" that can be offered in the market, new or improved business process and make existing process more efficient.

- Global reach and ability to manage multiple data types.

"We are honoured that Trillium Software has selected BT as its Customer of the Year," said Nigel Turner, head of ICT customer management delivery at BT.

"There has been a great deal of internal promotion around our data quality initiatives, but it's a privilege to have the organisation recognised publicly for the results we have been able to attain using Trillium Software's products".

Turner added, "Within BT we have gained extensive experience of running data quality improvement projects and using Trillium Software's best-of-breed toolset".

"A key focus now is to share this experience and knowledge with our customers".

"BT is an innovator in its market and recognises the link between the quality and completeness of customer information and good account management, customer service, and effective operations," said Gary Skidmore, corporate officer and executive vice president, Harte-Hanks, who presented the award to BT at the 2007 Harte-Hanks Trillium Software Customer Conference.

"BT views customer, asset and supplies data as a key business asset".

"We hope other organisations will learn from BT's success and understand the return on investment that 'total data quality' can provide when implemented at a business level".

This is the first time Trillium Software has awarded this honour to a customer and it will become an annual award presented at the company's user conference each year.
